Chlorinated water quickly causes natural hair to become damaged, dry and brittle. Here are some ways to prevent damage to your hair while swimming:
~ Tips for swimming ~
Before you swim, rinse your hair thoroughly with tap water. If your hair is dry when you get in the water, it will absorb more of the chemicals. Your hair is like a sponge so allow your hair to soak up fresh water beforehand.
After rinsing apply conditioner through your hair. The conditioner will act as a barrier when it comes in contact with the swimming water. Pull your hair back in a bun instead of wearing it loose. You want to allow the least amount of absorption from swimming water as possible.
Wear a swim cap. I know! This isn’t cute…but you hair will be when it’s all over and done!
After you’re completely finish swimming...Shampoo your hair with a moisturizing shampoo. Rinse your hair, and ALWAYS follow up with a conditioner.make sure you deep condition for at least 20 min.
